You wouldn’t expect to see the future in Boca Raton, Florida—but that’s exactly what some of our SPC team found last week. We traveled to one of only three Canon demo centers in the world to get some face time with what will be SPC’s newest addition, the Océ ProStream 1000.
I traveled with a small contingent of SPC leadership to run the machine through its paces, and it was great to spend some time with my colleagues. Even though I’ve only been part of the SPC team for five months, it already feels like family, and that’s something special. It wasn’t all work though—Boca Raton boasts world renowned brewery, Funky Buddha. I was fortunate enough to get a sample of their famous maple bacon beer and it was as good as it sounds.
It was great to be able to get some direct, detailed training from the people who know it best. The ProStream does not disappoint, as it clearly gives SPC a trump card over the competition. We ran an actual SPC job on site at the Canon demo center, and the results were remarkable. The speed, resolution and color are all game changers and should be noticed by even the most jaded print clients. I’m also excited that the ProStream will allow us to reach even more of those valuable Pantone® colors that clients so often need. Not only can we now impress with color; the ProStream boasts 1200 x 1200 dpi, vaulting it past the Océ VarioPrint i300 sheetfed inkjet press that is currently in our lettershop.
John Gebhardt, our resident color expert, echoed similar thoughts. “One of the biggest battles in offset printing is consistency with registration and color,” he said. “The battle with holding color is probably the biggest. This Canon ProStream has eliminated that problem for us. Not only does the press sheet of this press match our Epson proofs, but once you have locked in the color it stays throughout the whole press run. The quality will be consistent through the whole printing of the job.” That kind of consistency will allow us to keep our costs and waste down, improving job performance for everyone.
We finished up our time at Canon with training classes, live demo, and more. No detail was missed. With the ProStream as part of our direct mail arsenal, I feel confident that SPC can excite even the most demanding customers.
