GROWING OUR ROOTS

For the past 25 years, SPC has thrived on a foundation of creativity, integrity, innovation and sustainability built by every member of the dedicated SPC team. There are so many reasons to feel proud of this milestone. But our biggest source of pride comes from our years-long relationship with our clients and partners. Thank you for helping us get to where we are today.

In recognition of our 25th Anniversary, we donated 2,500 tree seedlings to hard-hit areas due to wild fires back in 2020. Throughout 2021, we invite you to consider a donation to our campaign through One Tree Planted. Help us exceed our goal here. Make a difference together.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Print. Plant. Preserve.

Environmental sustainability for the health of our planet is a priority for SPC and we are proud to incorporate certified products and supplies while also implementing the required responsible practices in our processes throughout our facilities. We believe because of these certifications and high standards in running our business, we have made a positive impact on our community and clients.

Our World Our Responsibility

OUR COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

STEWARDSHIP IN ACTION–SPC promotes sustainability by employing environmentally-friendly manufacturing processes that result in more efficient utilization of materials, conservation of energy, recycling of waste, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. SPC is proud of its efforts as well as the certifications and recognition it has received from leaders in the world of green manufacturing and sustainability, which include, most notably.

Sustainability Certifications

SPC is one of a limited number of printers that are Tri-Certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). These organizations promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests through rigorous certification of stakeholders in the paper and paper products industries. They also provide a forum for these stakeholders to share ideas and develop initiatives geared toward improvement of forest management practices. These certifications ensure SPC’s products are derived from well-managed, replenish-able sources of trees, pulp, and paper, as well as the protection of these sourced wildlife areas.

Greenified Company Recognition

SPC is recognized as a Greenified® company by the national Green Business Alliance (GBA). The GBA is an organization that helps companies identify sustainability objectives and integrate more environmentally responsible stewardship into their daily business practices. SPC is authorized to display the GBA seal on its website as evidence of its commitment to running an environmentally conscious business.

Carbon Footprint Reductions
SPC reduces its carbon footprint though innovative product design and production planning, which results in heightened efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and minimal waste. SPC operates a small fleet of late-model delivery trucks that are highly fuel efficient and create less greenhouse gas emissions than their older counterparts. SPC encourages employee carpooling and the use of teleconferencing and other interactive web-based meeting tools in lieu of physical travel, wherever possible. In addition, SPC uses certified printing inks free of ozone-depleting chemicals, heavy metals, and conflict minerals.
Recycling Initiatives
At SPC, nearly all paper that is not part of a finished product gets recycled. An automated system collects paper waste from shop floors and forms it into bales, which are repurposed into usable paper. SPC re-uses wood and plastic pallets, as well as cardboard trays and boxes. SPC also reclaims its printing plates and collects ink wastes that can be reused as black ink. This level of recycling has significantly reduced the number of dumpsters SPC sends to landfills.
Energy-Efficient Equipment

SPC has made major investments in state-of-the-art technology to lower its overall energy consumption. These include energy efficient LED lighting, an advanced HVAC system, energy efficient windows for the pressroom facility, ENERGY STAR compliant computer equipment, thermal oxidizers on web presses, and an automatic water usage control system that significantly reduces energy and water consumption. SPC also has an energy curtailment agreement with its energy provider. In the event of a high capacity occurrence such as a heat wave, SPC’s service can be cut back so more power is available to distribute to others.

Full Regulatory Compliance
SPC has a long-standing relationship with an outside consultant who continuously monitors the company’s chemical usage and VOC emissions to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The consultant also provides DOT Hazmat and other training to SPC’s employees. SPC facilities are in full compliance with regulations of the United States and Illinois Environmental Protection Agencies, as well as environmental regulations of Cook County, Chicago, and Niles, Illinois. SPC also holds a Federally Enforceable State Operating Permit.
